Jennifer Wheeler, Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

My passion for empowering people to achieve the change they desire began at an internship at New York University when I worked with victims of domestic violence. It was my introduction to seeing firsthand someone’s overwhelming pain and undeniable resilience. I saw strength and wanted to learn how to tap into that strength even when one feels hopeless.

After graduating from New York University with a BA in Psychology (1998), I began a Masters Program in Social Work at the University of Georgia, from which I graduated in 2000. Here I fell in love with the basic social work principles: start where the client is, empathize, and build from his/her strengths. For more than a decade I have worked in various settings that include; outpatient mental health clinics, residential and outpatient drug treatment facilities, and hospitals. I have conducted sessions everywhere from the office to schools, jails, hospitals, parks and coffee shops. Working in such varied settings with people facing a wide spectrum of challenges allowed me to develop skills from various modalities that are flexible and can be tailored to each individual or couple.

Now that I have been in private practice for a few years and my sessions are conducted in the comfort of my office, my goal has remained the same: to get you where you want to be.

In addition to private practice, I have been a consultant for Bridging Access To Care (formerly Brooklyn AIDS Task Force) for 10 years. I initially provided direct care to clients including assessments and therapy. However, now I provide clinical supervision to therapists and counselors looking to obtain their LCSW, LMHC or simply further develop their clinical skills.
